The Bushwick Book Club Seattle is not your run-of-the-mill book club. Started in 2009 in the heart of Bushwick, Brooklyn, founder Susan Hwang gathered a group of musicians at Goodbye Blue Monday on Broadway to deliver music inspired by Kurt Vonnegut’s Cat’s Cradle. Geoff Larson was living in the city at the time, was blown away by the event. He asked if he could open a chapter in Seattle, and the rest is history! Now there are chapters in Brooklyn, Seattle, New Orleans, Malmo, Toronto and more…
The Bushwick Book Club Seattle is a group of musicians dedicated to sharing our combined passion for music and reading with the Seattle community and beyond. With each performance, a book is chosen, which is read by our talented Bushwick artists, who then write original music inspired by the book they just read. The audience is encouraged to read the featured book and participate in the events. By producing these unique, one-of-a-kind musical literary events, they hope to increase awareness of literature and songwriting, while at the same time reminding people (young and old) that reading can and should be a regular part of their daily lives.
Additionally, the Bushwick Book Club Seattle offers youth programs working on critical thinking and songwriting skills and is a 501(c)3 Non-Profit Organization.
