ROLL UP YOUR SLEEVES: GET THE NEW COVID BOOSTER & YOUR FLU SHOT

Updated: Jan 27

As musicians, music lovers, and live music-goers, we know all too well how COVID-19 shutdowns shook our music scene, our community, and ourselves. Unlike other industries, the music world couldn’t just pivot to takeout or mail order to survive. The recovery of our beloved live music scene is a fragile one, and we must be honest with ourselves—COVID-19 still exists, as do the risks of seasonal flu, which can be just as disruptive to our lives and livelihoods. Proactively protecting ourselves against both COVID and the flu means fewer missed gigs, fewer canceled shows, and fewer chances of reliving the nightmare of 2020-22.

Let’s face it: no one loves needles. And for some, skepticism around vaccines or medical conditions that prohibit vaccination is very real. That’s why those of us who can get vaccinated should step up to protect the whole community. Whether you’re center stage, selling merch, or singing along in the crowd, getting your flu shot and staying up to date on the latest COVID booster are simple ways to keep the music live.

Flu shots and COVID-19 boosters are widely available at pharmacies and community health centers. Many even offer the option to get both vaccines in one visit—efficient, right? Need help finding clinics and pharmacies offering free and low-cost flu shots and COVID boosters? Check out the resources below.

So roll up your sleeves and take care of yourself and the music community.

Together, We Can Build a Healthier Future for Music

Seattle’s musicians give so much to our community—now it’s our turn to give back. Your donation to SMASH provides local artists access to affordable healthcare, mental health resources, and vital support services, helping them thrive both on and off the stage. Together, we can ensure the music never stops.

When you make a tax-deductible gift to SMASH, you directly impact our capacity to serve current members, expand programs and services, and support even more musicians in our area.

Your gift can shape the future of our city's music scene.

Behind the scenes of your favorite albums, far too many musicians are struggling to afford the healthcare they need to stay healthy and make music. When basic needs like routine physicals, mental health support, dental care, and glasses are often inaccessible, it is extremely difficult to sustain a music career. And without help, the music that has defined our city for decades could fade.
